Alek Rapoport
Modulor
The artwork brings together caricatural graphic art, architectural imagery, mathematical notation, and fragmented human figures in a densely layered composition. The composition evokes a world shaped by systems of measurement, architectural structures, and the human figure. The title refers to the Modulor, the system of proportions developed by architect Le Corbusier, which sought to relate human dimensions to architectural space. Rapoport’s use of this reference creates a dialogue between geometric order and the irregular, expressive language of caricature. The juxtaposition of skeletal imagery, fragmented architectural forms, handwritten formulas, and mechanical details lends the work an enigmatic, almost theatrical quality. The painting reflects Rapoport’s multidisciplinary approach to art, informed by his experience in graphic art, theatre design, and art theory. Modulor brings together intellectual inquiry and expressive experimentation, inviting the viewer to consider the relationship between the human body, constructed space, and the systems through which the world is measured and understood.
